In Japan, grid connection applications have surged due to the rapid expansion of renewable energy, grid-scale battery storage, and data centers. This has led to speculative applications and longer review periods. Similar challenges have emerged in the United States, where reforms such as stricter financial commitments, withdrawal rules, and cluster-based studies are being introduced. Looking ahead, improving application credibility, encouraging development in grid-ready areas, promoting more flexible grid use, and accelerating grid expansion will be essential to maximizing limited network capacity while ensuring both reliable electricity supply and decarbonization.
