Outline For the United States, addressing the surge in electricity demand resulting from the rapid proliferation of AI is an urgent matter of national security that goes beyond mere energy issues. Sustaining its leadership in the world’s cutting-edge AI technology is also inextricably linked to Japan’s national security. The focus of U.S. energy policy is likely to shift toward prioritizing the renovation and modernization of the electric power infrastructure rather than the selection of energy sources down the road. Japan’s public–private collaboration to support the United States’ leadership in AI development can be regarded as a new form of burden-sharing in the context of the U.S.–Japan alliance.
