Outline On June 17, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to extend the ceasefire, marking a step forward toward stabilizing global energy markets. While a recovery in oil and LNG exports from the Persian Gulf is expected, it will take time for production to recover to pre-war levels. On the demand side, a rebound in demand as consumers are freed from the forced conservation, along with a refilling of stockpiles, is anticipated, which will delay a decline in oil prices. Learning from this crisis, importing countries will aim to reduce their dependence on the Middle East for oil and LNG supplies; however, a complete shift away from the region is not realistic. Measures must be strengthened in parallel, based on the assumption that a certain level of dependence on the Middle East will remain.
